White Crappie with Beans: Stacy Lyn’s Meal Made Easy

In Alabama, fishing is all the rage during May. It’s the perfect weather for it, right before the stifling heat of summer hits. And crappie is a truly fun fish to catch.

Crappie comes in two varieties, white and black. The Crappie and White Beans with Basil recipe below is best with the white variety.

Stacy Lyn's Meals Made Easy: white crappie with beans, coleslaw, cornbread, and strawberry shortcake. In case you’re not familiar with crappie, it is a very popular pan fish — that is, a small catch that rarely outgrows the size of a frying pan yet is large enough to be a legal catch.

But the most important thing to know about crappie is that it tastes delicious when lightly floured and fried. Crappie with White Beans and Basil is the main feature of today’s Meal Made Easy.

Note that it’s a pretty mild fish, so if you don’t have any white crappie on hand, you can substitute any white flaky fish in this recipe.

Creamy beans are always a winner with fish, as is my Coleslaw with Mustard and Apples. Together, they are just amazing.

But in my opinion, the white crappie and beans and the creamy slaw are only part of the story. This meal is not complete without a piece of crunchy-on-the-outside, creamy-on-the-inside Southern Fried Cornbread.

If you are a hushpuppy person instead of a cornbread person, I’ve also added that link below just for you. These Southern Hush Puppies  are to die for.

Finish this incredible meal off with your own Ultimate Strawberry Shortcake. Since berries are in season right now, I thought it would be a light, cool dessert for you to try!
