Filming TV Show – What a Fun Weekend!

This weekend we were filming for a TV Show, Destination Whitetail! What a fun weekend. The producer of the show, Chris Hermans is such a pleasure to be around. He has filmed us before, but this time I think the kids loosened up around him and he was able to get their personalities to come out during their interviews.

Hunter, my oldest, is sharing his future plans. He shares his passion for plants of all kinds as well as foraging, and genetics.

When Chris arrived, I was excited to serve him Venison Bourguignon and had planned a few other meals that I thought that he would enjoy such as Roasted Snapper with Mustard Sauce, Black-eyed Peas Salad, and Organic Black Rice. He didn’t get to eat this because we cooked over the fire and I prepared….well that will be a surprise for the show next season. Scott is a fantastic pancake maker and he served us pancakes with Orange Marmalade. By the way, some of these recipes can be found in my book, Happy Healthy Family Tracking the Outdoors In.

Delicimoso! I looooove Venison Bourguignon! It is our family tradition to have it every Christmas Eve.

It was really quite amazing that the men harvested three deer this weekend. They referred to their hunts as GROCERY SHOPPING! It is a little more difficult than going to the supermarket, but makes for lifelong memories “hunting and gathering” for the family as well as bringing perfectly organic, hormone free food to our table. Hunting is a major part of the sustainable lifestyle for my family.

Saturday evening Chris filmed me as I prepared dinner over the hearth in our den.

I just love a fireplace. That was one of my request for Scott and my honeymoon. They are so romantic! We went to Jackson Hole and the temperature was 18 degrees below freezing.

This was really very fun! I think I am going to make this a weekly event!

All in all, it was a fabulous weekend. My hat is off to Chris for hanging in there with all of us all.

It started off fairly warm here in Alabama, but by the time Chris left, it was beginning to freeze. We spent the rest of the day preparing for freezing temperatures!

I am having to pick all my kumquats because it is going to freeze here in Alabama for a few days. It is going to 12 degrees tonight.

We are really going to need this fire for the next few days!
