I’m so excited to share with you my best recipes for pumpkin. They are all quick, easy, and super delicious. In addition, some of these pumpkin recipes include an adventure in the making of them, like my Pumpkin Pie Pioneer Style.

What Can I Make with a Pumpkin?

It’s the time of year when lots of people are asking that question. My answer is: so many different delicious dishes, both sweet and savory! Pumpkin can be one of the most fantastic ingredients during the fall months.

Scott, the kids and I gather around the fire pit during cool nights in October and enjoy tending to a few slow roasted pumpkins over the coals in anticipation of Pumpkin Pie Pioneer Style. While waiting for the pumpkin to cook, we prepare our favorite chili recipe with a little fried cornbread and hot chocolate.

These family nights by the fire are some of my favorite fall memories.

What Spices are Used with Pumpkin?

Many of you know by now that I haven’t always loved pumpkin. At least, I thought I didn’t love it! Now I have realized that some of the overpowering spices in pumpkin recipes were the root of my dislike, not the pumpkin itself. Now I actually love pumpkin with the right mix and amount of spices.

With spices like nutmeg, cinnamon, allspice, and cloves, the key is to keep in mind that a little goes a long way. Used correctly, these spices pair beautifully with pumpkin and enhance its flavor.

Because of my reaction against excessive spices, my favorite pumpkin recipes don’t have as much spice as most. You’ll notice the more restrained use of seasoning especially with my pumpkin pie and pumpkin butter. There are subtle spices, but not ones that overpower the fresh pumpkin flavor.
