Salsa Verde

Salsa Verde is a green salsa made from tomatillos. When I was a kid, I thought that “green salsa” ¬† was made from green tomatoes, and boy was I wrong. The flavor of tomatillos is a much stronger pungent flavor. This salsa is addictive and you might as well sit down with an entire bag of chips because just a few won’t do.

Tomatillo plants are easy to grow and really very easy to prepare. They have a husk that must be peeled off of the tomatillo before roasting or boiling. I roast my tomatillos for better flavor.

Also don’t forget the health benefits of tomatillos! Tomatillos contain a phytochemical anti-oxidant called withanolides. They have anti-bacterial and anti-cancer properties. They are packed full of vitamins A, B, E, and more! Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad to eat the entire bowl full!

Tomatillo Sauce is perfect over burittos, enchiladas, and eggs believe it or not. You can roast tomatillos, pureé them and put them in your favorite guacamole recipe! Have fun, enjoy, and happy cooking and eating!
