The book has been a lot of hard, but fun, work!!  Our home was like a well oiled machine last summer and early fall as I wrote recipes, grew vegetables and herbs, canned like crazy, cooked and photographed the 90 plus recipes that will appear in the book.  I must say we ate great this summer.  Thankfully, Scott and the kids kept me pumped up and encouraged as I wrote the book.

Each of my children has their own niche in the making of cookbooks!  Hunter, my oldest, is my master gardener in whom I trust in helping with the ordering of seeds and seeing the seeds through to the harvest stage.

My little girls have learned how to harvest our vegetables and how to prepare them for the cooking process.

Hampton and Howlett are my chicken whisperers, keeping the chickens fed, watered, and healthy.  Anna, my 7-year-old, fetches our eggs daily.

Graylyn, my 14-year-old, is my baker.  She is fabulous with breads and just about everything in the kitchen.

This book is my baby of sorts and I am so excited to see the final product soon.  Thanks for continuing to support me through all of this.

Some of my challenges have been constantly managing seven kids, home, education of the kids, and keeping up with our three meals a day on top of preparing and photographing the food for the cookbook.

I have had to plan and make goals, BUT be flexible enough to notice if I needed a break to spend time just playing with the kids and ordering food out.  I think it has been very important to take note of the kids’ needs each day so that I am always “tying strings” with them and forming relationships with them, as well as Scott.  Thankfully, Scott is all about what I am doing and he is the inspiration for most everything I do and write about.

Though the deadlines that I had to meet nearly killed me, I did get to spend almost a full day alone in my house one day while I finished a lot of the articles in the book.

That was only the 2nd time in nine years that I have been alone in the house. I didn’t know whether to dance and sing really loudly or get to work. I think I did a little of both!  Getting to my work took a lot of discipline!!

I can’t wait for you to see the book!  I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed writing it!  I love that every recipe has a picture with it.  I never knew how visual I was.  Very rarely do I cook a recipe that I cannot see.  What about you?
