Easy Recipes for Special Dads on Father’s Day

Menu planning for special days can be a challenge, and recipes for Father’s Day are no exception. Some of us have several dads in our lives to celebrate all at once. That’s a great thing, of course! But it can be tricky to please everybody.

The great thing about this year’s Father’s Day for me, besides my own dad and Scott’s dad being healthy, is that Scott and I have a son who is expecting! So, Forrest gets to join in on the fun of being celebrated as a father this year.

In this post I’m offering some easy, tried-and-true recipes for Father’s Day that please all the dads in our family.

The Way to a Man’s Heart on Father’s Day?

I was told that the quickest way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. Now I don’t know how true that is, but it definitely seems like the case! Any time Father’s Day rolls around, I try and brainstorm as many recipes as I can. After all, I have a lot of special dads in my family whose sacrifices as fathers deserve celebration.

To me, Father’s Day is one of the most important days of the year. I believe a country’s health is relative to the fathers in that society. Fathers raise the children who will be governing the next generation–literally ruling the world! To my mind, there is no bigger role a man can play in helping to shape the future. I also include men without kids of their own who serve as mentors and teachers.

Fathers all around the country work hard every single day for their families. They sacrifice their time and their bodies (often through hard physical labor) so their wives and children can live in comfort. They deserve way more than one day out of the year for their efforts to be recognized, but we can make this one day as special as possible!

Father’s Day Recipes for My Dad, the Master Gardener

Me with my dad, Wayne Pilgreen.

Let’s talk a little bit about my dad, as a tribute. He’s the best gardener I’ve ever known. I’ve mentioned his gardening before in my article about planting on Good Friday. He’s very in tune with the soil, and can make any plant bear magnificent fruits in the garden, almost by magic! He’s also an avid fisherman, and he always brings back a big catch on his trips to the fishing hole.

So when I try to think of something good to cook for my dad on Father’s Day, the recipes usually revolve around garden-fresh vegetables like Fried Green Tomatoes and tasty fish dishes.

Fried Green Tomatoes enhance any Father’s Day menu or other special occasion. They’re the perfect side for burgers at a cookout.

His favorite dish of mine is actually one I call Fabulous Bream. Bream is his favorite fish, and I try to make it for him as much as I can. But I know that not all dads like fish, so I’ve included some other non-fish recipes for y’all. Make your dad happy by serving him something he likes! Unfortunately, dads can be especially picky.

Burgers on or off the Grill for Father’s Day

This year, my Father’s Day menu is revolving around burgers.

Both Scott and Forrest love a great burger and homemade fries or potato wedges, so that’s the route I am going for them. In fact, pretty much every dad I know loves the flavor of a great burger. I have several on the site that all the men in our family love. With that in mind, burgers are getting top billing in the roundup of recipes below.

This year I think I’m going with the Venison Burger with Bacon and Pimiento. You could certainly make these as beef or turkey burgers if you don’t have any venison.

But then again, maybe the Smash Burger with special sauce would be a showstopper. They are so fast and easy to make. It’s perfect weather for a Father’s Day cookout!

Here are 25 favorite Father’s Day dinner ideas in one place. I’ve included side dishes and desserts. The fried green tomatoes also make a great appetizer. And by the way, you can never go wrong with potato salad and corn on the cob with butter.

I know you will find something here to please the dads in your life!

Bonus recipe: if you want to wake up a little early and put together a hearty brunch for the dad in your family, this Mexican Venison and Eggs skillet breakfast is just perfect.
