Peanut Pie is an all-time favorite in my home. For my family, this pie has become a traditional holiday pie. I can’t imagine celebrating without it gracing my table.

With the sand-loving legume growing beautifully in Alabama, we plant peanuts for our wildlife as well as ourselves. Alabama produces over 75% of peanut production in the United States. It seems to me that the Peanut Pie should be the pie of Alabama.

ALAGA Syrup is my choice of syrup for the filling. Interestingly, the ALAGA Syrup plant is located here in my hometown of Montgomery, Alabama. Over 100 years ago, ALAGA created the secret formula for the “Sweetness of the South” from cane syrup. It’s quite an interesting story how the company began and is worth reading.

About 13 years ago, they relocated their warehouse and sold the bricks.  Since we were building a “new” historic house we bought every one of the bricks for the base of our historic home and laid walkways with the ones left over.

The bricks from my new "historic" home are from the old Alaga Syrup warehouse and pickle plant built over 100 years ago.

One of the reasons that I love this pie is peanuts are the star of the show. Peanut flavor comes through and through.

  • 2 1/2 Tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 3/4 teaspoon Kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper

  • 2 teaspoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 2 cups dry roasted peanuts

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • In a medium bowl, add brown sugar. Scrape seeds from the vanilla bean, flour, cinnamon, salt, and cayenne pepper into the brown sugar and whisk all ingredients until well incorporated.
  • In a small bowl, add eggs and whisk until frothy.
  • Add eggs to the brown sugar mixture. Add syrup, vinegar, and butter to eggs and brown sugar mixture and incorporate until well blended.
  • Pour peanuts into the fully baked pie crust. Pour filling over the peanuts and shake just a bit to get rid of any air bubbles in the mixture.
  • Bake pie for about 40 minutes or until set. Remove from oven and allow to cool for at least 10 minutes. Serve with ice cream or vanilla whipped cream.

  1. Do you use roasted peanuts in the jar or do you roast them. Are the peanuts salted or unsalted? I plan to make this and want to get the correct ingredients.

    1. I use the roasted peanuts in the jar or can. They are salted, but I think you could go either way on that. I love a little salt with my sweetness. I love this dessert. I hope you do too.

    Hi Stacy,
    What is Alaga syrup?

    1. You can replace Alaga with any cane syrup or light corn syrup. It’s a company that I have always used and like, but you can substitute.
